Well, that felt good…
On Sunday 16 August, we did something at The Star that we have not done since before Covid. We brought back one of our good old fashioned family and friends barbecues.
This one was particularly special, as we were celebrating Danielle’s birthday alongside Lynn’s sister’s 80th birthday, and what a day it turned out to be.
The sun was shining, the garden was full, the pub was full and there were friends and family everywhere. Children were playing and dancing, the food kept coming and there was that lovely relaxed atmosphere that reminded us exactly why we used to enjoy these days so much.
Good food, good music and a full garden
Anyone who knows us knows that we love feeding people, so naturally there was plenty coming off the barbecue throughout the day. Good food, cold drinks and a garden full of people enjoying themselves. Just how we like it.
Then there were The Great Mates, who were absolutely fantastic.
They played some brilliant covers and it was not long before everyone was singing along, with the children dancing and making the most of having the garden to themselves. They were the perfect soundtrack to a really lovely afternoon.
It was one of those days where you could look around and see different generations all enjoying themselves together. From the little ones running around to friends and family catching up over a pint, it felt like the old Star family barbecues all over again.

Thank you to everyone who came along, ate, drank, sang, danced and helped make the day so special. Bringing back something we used to do regularly before Covid felt really quite lovely after all these years.
It reminded us that sometimes the simplest things are the best. Fill the garden, fire up the barbecue, put on some live music and get everyone together.
And judging by Sunday, perhaps we should not leave it quite so long before we do it again.
