We’re still buzzing from what turned out to be one of the best nights here at The Star. Our charity Race Night – Run by our very own Danielle (who is now a proud Lion herself) – in aid of the Tenterden Lions Club was not only a fantastic evening full of energy, fun and community spirit…it also raised an incredible £1400 for an organisation that does truly meaningful work in and around Tenterden.
From the moment the first race began, the pub was full of laughter, cheering, and the occasional hopeful bet. The support from everyone who attended was just brilliant – and we’re so grateful to every single person who bought a horse, placed a flutter, donated a prize, or simply came along to enjoy the night.
So, who are the Tenterden Lions Club?
The Tenterden Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest volunteer service organisation, with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries. But here in Tenterden, the focus is local – and has been since the club was first founded in 1957.
Their mission is simple: “We Serve.” That means stepping in where support is needed most – from helping local schools and community hubs, to backing causes like Pilgrims Hospice, Hi-Kent, the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, the RNLI at Dungeness, and many more. They also work to enhance the town itself, planting thousands of bulbs along verges, maintaining the beacon on the Rec, and giving back in ways big and small.
You might also know them from one of their best-loved traditions: the Christmas Float, which brings Father Christmas (and plenty of sweets!) to the villages in the lead-up to Christmas. It’s a highlight for families, and a wonderful example of the joy this group brings to the community year after year.
A Big Thank You
We are so proud to support a charity like this – one that’s powered entirely by volunteers and keeps every penny of effort focused on the local area. The £1400 raised at our Race Night will help them continue their work, and we’re thrilled to have played a small part in that.
A massive thank you to the Tenterden Lions Club for all they do – and to everyone who supported the event. You made it what it was.
